Last Chance to Grab … all the Goodies of SL9B!

Today is the last day of the Second Life Ninth Birthday … and so it’s your last chance to come and see all the fantastic builds that have been created!

It’s also your last chance to grab the wonderful presents and information that the exhibitors have been donating – and to take part in the Cake Hat hunt and the Egyptian Hunt too!

Party Cats (KittyCatS at SL9B)

Party Cats (KittyCatS at SL9B)

Don’t miss the beautiful Birthday Cat created by KittyCatS!  KittyCatS have not only sponsored two sims (and provided a very fun exhibit with KittyCatS having their own party) – they also created a very special birthday cat too.  You can see a large version in the special jigsaw below … the real one is perched, still a kitten, on my shoulder.

KittyCatS at SL9B (the usual size is the one on my shoulder!)

There is also the very cute Birthday Bear, created by Sway Dench.

You’ll find kiosks for both the Birthday KittyCat and the Birthday Bear in the Welcome Area (as well as other locations).

And you’ll find that other exhibitors have put out goodies for you to collect all over!

Last chance to search for hidden treasure in Egypt!

And don’t miss the Egyptian Hunt – seven days of posts lead to seven very special prizes buried in the desert sands of Shindig and Partytime. You’ll find the posts here:

While you’ll find an amazing amount of loot around the different stands, offered by our amazing exhibitors, there’s also a really valuable gift on offer that you really should grab while you can – knowledge.

Many of the exhibitors have notecards that tell you more about themselves and their work … some provide wider links to their communities. An outstanding one here is Crap Mariner’s exhibit which has links to a huge number of writing groups and literary projects in Second Life.  Do go and grab as many as you can … before Crap blows the whole thing up!

It’s the last day … the last chance.  Remember – to enjoy the birthday … you had to be there.

Last chance.

The Egyptian Hunt – Clue Six

Such strange days and nights pass here. When I first came to Shin-Dig I could not credit the bizarre tales I had heard from those who came before me, but now… now they all make so much sense.

The latest strange incident came while I was examining a group of fallen columns a little way in from the entrance to the complex. I wanted to get far away from the strange  wreckage and the place of yesterday’s vision, and this seemed like a potentially fruitful area of study. The carvings here tell of a mighty huntress, wreathed in flames and full of wisdom. I was just coming to the end of a tale in which she appeared ready to vanquish a beast called “The Laag” when out of nowhere, I was hailed by a voice! I had thought myself alone out here, but there before me were two travellers – a lady sitting astride a camel and a man riding… well, I’m not quite sure what he was riding, to be honest. It seemed like some kind of horse, clad entirely in black armour. What was even stranger, the lady was a friend from home! We spoke for a brief while, discussing the dig and what I had found here, and then on they rode. I watched them go, marvelling at the oddness of their appearance here and as they approached the Temple of the Great Physician I saw another figure raise an arm to greet them. A terrible figure, clad all in black and bearing a scythe that he waved above his head. I was overcome, and slid into the welcome embrace of nothingness. I do not know how long I was unconscious, but when I awoke the sun was low and all signs of their passing had gone. I was back by the pillars I had been examining and beneath my head lay another curious object…

Where’re the bears this year?

SL9B Cookie Bear made by Sway Dench

SL9B Cookie Bear made by Sway Dench

For many people, the bears are an important part of the Birthday. Every year, the Lindens would make a birthday bear that would be given free to residents at the main Birthday event.  This year, of course, as the Lab has stepped back, there is no official bear.  But visitors to SL9B will discover that there are bears to see and even some of the most gorgeous Birthday bears to take home.

Sway’s wonderful SL9B bear and vendor at the Prim Perfect tearoom

Sway Dench has made an awesome Birthday bear – and you can get it free from the vendor on the tree at the Prim Perfect tearoom in Kyuu or from the Happy Hunting Exhibit in Jamboree.  Well, I say “it”, but you actually get three bears in the single package – one to rezz and set out, one to cuddle in your arms (very comforting) and one that will swing along holding your hand as your companion!

There are other bears available too – if you are offering one, perhaps you could add details in the comments!

And, if you like, you can give a bear to the Lindens too (or maybe keep if for yourself!) This is part of Loki Eliot’s exhibit, created by Everest Piek who says:

Everest Piek's bear for customising (and maybe giving to a Linden)

Everest Piek’s bear for customising (and maybe giving to a Linden)

Loki Eliot brought me to an idea about Lindens sometimes would need a hug and a fluffy bear. Adding to that it started some chain of thoughts: It is THEIR birthday and THEY should expect and get some presents, as we do at all our birthdays.
So I took a bear on full perms and put some template textures inside so you would be able to make your very own RESIDENTS BEAR to give away to one or several Lindens of your choice to show them how much you actually appreciating their hard work to keep us interested and contended in Seconlife(TM).
Add anything you think would be defining the bear as YOUR bear and link it to the bear, then rename it with your Name and maybe some name of the bear, i.E. mine is called SL9B Everest Piek EvryBear.
Enjoy being creative and giving some love to your favourite Lindens!

The Egyptian Hunt – Clue Five

My dreams were strange last night. I blame the fumes from that mysterious wreckage.

I can see it now, beyond the scaffolding left by a previous expedition. Not archaeologists, this group – more like dinosaur hunters if the subject of their interest is anything to go by. Of course, they had entirely the wrong subject: the beast is far too shallowly covered to be any older than the ruins themselves and they only date back a few thousand years at best. The creature does hold some interest, though, for it is no small specimen.

As I examined it, I found myself seeing something out of the corner of my eye. Something that became apparently more solid as time passed, until it was fully-realised before me. An oasis. But here? It could only have been a mirage, but so much more real than I have ever seen before. As I looked upon this curious vision, my throat became suddenly dry and I was seized by an inhuman thirst – I had to have water at once! The desert around me had become a blur, and all I could see were the cool, wonderful water and luscious palm trees. I clambered my way over the rocks and the giant skeleton without so much as a thought, and staggered towards my object. I was almost there when I fell, my foot caught on something. Looking up from the sand, the vision had gone – and with it my thirst. Everything was as it had been this morning, with one exception: the strange item that tripped me. It now resides safely in my camp, and I cannot help but wonder what might have befallen me had it not interposed itself in such a timely manner…

Broadway Cares / Equity Fights AIDS: Benefit Day at SL9B

Broadway Cares / Equity Fights AIDS at SL9B

Broadway Cares / Equity Fights AIDS at SL9B

Today is a very special day at SL9B – because we are holding our first charitable benefit this year.

Dream Seeker Estates had designated June as the month they would support the charity Broadway Cares / Equity Fights AIDS well before they came on board as sponsors of SL9B. We decided that in return for their support, we would have a day of fundraising for their chosen charity.

So today you will find special donation jars at the the stages, the auditorium AND the Welcome Area.  Please give generously, to show your support of this important cause – and to show how support for such initiatives is, for Second Life residents, every bit as important as celebrating the Birthday.

About BC/EFA…
Broadway Cares / Equity Fights AIDS is one of the nation’s leading industry-based, nonprofit AIDS fundraising and grant-making organizations. By drawing upon the talents, resources and generosity of the American theatre community, since 1988 BC/EFA has raised over $195 million for essential services for people with AIDS and other critical illnesses across the United States.

BC/EFA is the major supporter of seven programs at The Actors Fund, including The HIV/AIDS Initiative, The Phyllis Newman Women’s Health Initiative, The Al Hirschfeld Free Health Clinic, The Actors Fund Work Program, The Dancers’ Resource, The Stage Managers’ Project and three supportive housing residences.

BC/EFA also awards annual grants to more than 400 AIDS and family service organizations nationwide.

*********************************************

A HISTORY OF GIVING
Equity Fights AIDS was founded in October 1987 by the Council of Actors’ Equity Association. Money raised through the efforts of Equity theatre companies across the country was specifically earmarked for The Actors Fund’s AIDS Initiative.

Broadway Cares was founded in February 1988 by members of The Producers’ Group. Money raised was earmarked to be awarded to AIDS service organizations nationwide, including Equity Fights AIDS.

In May 1992, Equity Fights AIDS and Broadway Cares merged to become Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. The Board of Trustees of this newly established not-for-profit fundraising organization assumed the missions of the previously separate organizations and continues to fund the social service work of The Actors Fund and to award grants three times a year to AIDS service organizations nationwide.

Unlike most other nonprofit, grant-making organizations, Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS must raise every single dollar of our philanthropic budget every year in order to fulfill our mission. In turn, BC/EFA works hard to ensure that the money we raise is spent carefully and wisely on programs where these hard-earned funds can have the maximum possible impact.
