Take the Linden Lab Survey on SL9B

Linden Lab are running a survey on the SL9B celebrations.

You’ll find it here:  http://bit.ly/N56GWZ- do go and fill it in!

Some of the questions do seem to reference the SL9B 20-sim Community Event, but many of them can be applied to other events if you want to comment on those (it might be worth specifying which event you are referring to in the comments!).

Don’t forget to fill out our own feedback form!

Newsflash – Giant Cake Explodes!

I was pushing my broom along the path by the water when I heard a noise. I looked up and the cake literally exploded in front of me! Fortunately I had my phone so I grabbed a quick video. Here’s what happened:

Well done Mikati!

Thank you SL9B Community

We would like to thank everyone who contributed to the Second Life 9th Community Birthday Celebration for all your hard work and volunteer spirit.  True community spirit in the face of short time,  insane deadlines and with all the team work that you could muster. Amazing!!! I was humbled by your efforts and collective energy.

We would like to thank our sponsors http://sl9b.wordpress.com/our-sponsors/ for the sims and services that were donated and delivered to us without a moments hesitation.

This year’s gathering expressed what true community is about. Community is not just a word it is an entity; a living, breathing entity. An interacting population of various kinds of individuals in a common location. Our common location is Second Life.  It was truly humbling for me to see so much collaboration that the Second Life community shared for this event.

If you enjoyed the event and want to be a part next year,  keep an eye on this blog and stay in the SLB Community Group for notification of next year’s festivities.

It was and always has been an honor and my pleasure to once again work with all of you.

Cya next time…..

Last chance to see …. the exhibits

A selection of photos from the Flickr group – and a reminder that this is the last chance to see the fabulous builds that made up the SL9B Community Event … as they’re all coming down tomorrow!

Here are some recent shots of the exhibits with – as usual – links where the photographers have given them!

Last Chance to Grab … all the Goodies of SL9B!

Today is the last day of the Second Life Ninth Birthday … and so it’s your last chance to come and see all the fantastic builds that have been created!

It’s also your last chance to grab the wonderful presents and information that the exhibitors have been donating – and to take part in the Cake Hat hunt and the Egyptian Hunt too!

Party Cats (KittyCatS at SL9B)

Party Cats (KittyCatS at SL9B)

Don’t miss the beautiful Birthday Cat created by KittyCatS!  KittyCatS have not only sponsored two sims (and provided a very fun exhibit with KittyCatS having their own party) – they also created a very special birthday cat too.  You can see a large version in the special jigsaw below … the real one is perched, still a kitten, on my shoulder.

KittyCatS at SL9B (the usual size is the one on my shoulder!)

There is also the very cute Birthday Bear, created by Sway Dench.

You’ll find kiosks for both the Birthday KittyCat and the Birthday Bear in the Welcome Area (as well as other locations).

And you’ll find that other exhibitors have put out goodies for you to collect all over!

Last chance to search for hidden treasure in Egypt!

And don’t miss the Egyptian Hunt – seven days of posts lead to seven very special prizes buried in the desert sands of Shindig and Partytime. You’ll find the posts here:

While you’ll find an amazing amount of loot around the different stands, offered by our amazing exhibitors, there’s also a really valuable gift on offer that you really should grab while you can – knowledge.

Many of the exhibitors have notecards that tell you more about themselves and their work … some provide wider links to their communities. An outstanding one here is Crap Mariner’s exhibit which has links to a huge number of writing groups and literary projects in Second Life.  Do go and grab as many as you can … before Crap blows the whole thing up!

It’s the last day … the last chance.  Remember – to enjoy the birthday … you had to be there.

Last chance.

How to have fun removing your build on Thursday…

So, when Thursday rolls around, most of you are going to teleport to your SL9B parcel, pick up your build item but item, and then teleport out.

That’s very thoughtful of you, but there’s another way to do it…

1) Pick up your entire build
2) Take a Copy of it for safekeeping
3) Raise it 100 meters off the ground
4) Delink all the prims
5) Set the prims to physical
6) Set the prims to temporary
7) Let go!

That’s right. It’s raining prims. Hallelujah.

Here’s an old video of my Podcaster build from SL5B:

I imagine the people on the ground, standing there, with a “YIPE!” sign in one hand and a dinky Wiley Coyote umbrella in the other.

Now, please, don’t pull this stunt until Thursday, okay? There’s still people wandering the sims in this glorious less-laggy environment, snapping photos and gathering up all the gifties and such you’ve generously offered.

But when it’s Thursday, oh man… fire up Fraps and LET ER RIP!

(And then post the videos to YouTube for all to enjoy.)

Thanks,
-ls/cm

SL9B Community Celebration – Pictures of the Day: Closing Out the Events

Yesterday marked the end of the SL9B events – although the sims will be open for exploration until Wednesday 27th at 11.59pm SLT.

In the mean-time, here are some final pics of the day … and once again, links given when supplied by photographers!

First of all, events at the Cake Stage ended with dancing and a firework display:

And the usually slightly more staid Auditorium had its party too!

Earlier, there had been a spectacular show with light and firs by the ChangHigh Sisters:

And finally, a view of one of the other celebrations going on this weekend – from the Mankind Tracer Pub Crawl and Street Fair:

It’s Almost All Over

The week is almost done. The last parties at the stages are winding down, but it’s not quite over yet. The sims are open until 11.59pm June 27 slt, so if you haven’t seen the exhibits, do it now.

What happens after that? Builders, you have one day, the 28th, to remove your builds or anything that you want removed. On the 29th the sims are being taken off line, so anything you have on the sims will at best end up in your lost and found or at worst be lost forever. Yes we know 1 day isn’t a lot of time, however we have no say in the matter – thats just the way it is.

Also yuo may notice at the top of the page we have a link to a feedback form. We want to know what you thought. If we did good let us know. If we did bad, please let us know (nicely). If you think something could have been done better we’d like to hear. And if you have any suggestions for next year then we definitely want to know. We won’t be able to respond to comments made on the form, but rest assured they will be read and considered when we start on SL10B.

A big thank you to all the volunteers who worked so hard to put this together, to all the exhibitors who made their wonderful displays – without you we’d have 20 empty sims, to all the performers and DJs who partied with us 24/7 and especially a big thank you to everyone who came to visit and hang out with us – without you there would be no party!
